Timetabling for head of departments
Timetabling Principles
The Head of Department or subject leader can play an important part within any timetable, as typically they give staffing preferences to the timetabler. Although they are only preferences which can be changed by the timetabler, if the Head of Department is aware of the impact of things such as 'teacher teams', 'combing charts' etc then these can be factored in from the beginning.
Many schools find that involving HODs in the timetable process actually helps the timetabler and the resulting timetable. Simply because they feel involved and often have some clever suggestions for getting around what seem impossibilities!
